Happy New Year!

Happy New Year y’all! 2017 went too quickly – as is the case when you get older, time speeds up. It’s not fair, especially when you get so busy with things that you *think* are important, but really aren’t. While you’re working to build a better tomorrow, today slips away.

We all have resolutions that we set every year and not many people stick to them. That’s ok. In order to truly appreciate the successes, you have to experience and appreciate the setbacks. (I totally feel like a fortune cookie right now… enough with the quips.)

What does 2018 hold for you? What are you wanting to achieve? For me, I want 2018 to be an expansive year in terms of knowledge, artistic growth, personal improvement, and strengthening relationships. I want it to be a year of accountability and less Amazon Prime binges. I’ll have my best friend reset my password and hold it hostage – give him a fully formed case study on why I *need* that item and how it will benefit my life for more than a 15 second high of opening the box. He’s a hard sell, so that should help. (Amazon, I love you, don’t take it personally).

In terms of business goals, I want to increase stability, expand my knowledge to better suit my clients, and hone some new skills. I’m getting back into illustrating (which is always fun); going to take more personal time to build a stronger portfolio, and work harder at marketing.

Also, I’ll be diving more into UX/UI this year as I’m fairly certain that’s where I want to go. I’m also going to be learning how to develop games and apps for iOS and Android (I feel like kids today are being born with this information already set in their tiny little baby brains… so… you know… time to catch up).

For my personal goals:
1. Lose weight, get in a shape other than “comfy”.
2. Spend more time with the people I love.
3. Buy a house.
4. Force myself to stick to the aforementioned goals.
5. Fit in “Happy New Year” one more time so that my SEO picks it up. (There. #5 already done. FEELS GREAT.)

The trick will be to balance the personal and business goals. There always seems to be time for only one side of the spectrum, right? Either you spend all of your time doing business stuff to give yourself “more freedom” in your personal life, that you neglect your personal life. OR, you spend so much time growing as a person and having fun with the people that matter that you fall behind in business and end up living in a cardboard box under a highway overpass with low traffic because “road noise is undesirable”. I’m all for building forts out of cardboard boxes, but… you know… no central AC.

Here’s to 2018 – a year of prosperity, growth, and love. Make it count. Do the thing. Say the stuff. Commit.

Happy New Year!
